Your XMission Email is getting an upgrade
Private, secure email you can count on. Get better spam protection while automatically syncing calendars and contacts to your phone.
Over the next few weeks, we’re moving XMission Email customers to our new email platform. We’re upgrading customers in small batches, and most of you won’t need to do anything at all. Here’s what’s changing, what isn’t, and what you can expect.
What to expect
- No action is required. We’ll move your mailbox for you, including your existing mail and your webmail contacts.
- Your email address and password stay the same.
- Your email apps keep working. If you read email on your phone or computer, no settings changes are needed.
- Webmail gets a new look. The next time you log in at webmail.xmission.com, you’ll see the refreshed interface. Our webmail guide walks through it, including preferences, filters, and forwarding.
- We’ll email you when it’s done. Once your mailbox has moved, you’ll get a short message from XMission Support confirming the upgrade.
Why we’re upgrading
Our new platform is based on iRedMail Enterprise Edition. It’s modern, secure, and built on open standards, and it runs on all-new infrastructure with stronger security controls, faster updates, and better reliability than our legacy system.
What’s new
A refreshed webmail
Check email, manage contacts, and schedule appointments from any browser at webmail.xmission.com. It’s modern, easy to use, and works great on any device.
Syncs with your phone and email apps
Your email, calendar, and contacts stay in sync across your phone, tablet, and computer. Use the apps you already like, including iPhone and Android mail, Outlook, Apple Mail, and Thunderbird. Most apps set themselves up automatically. Just enter your email address and password.
Stronger spam and malware protection
Every message is automatically scanned for spam and malware by SpamAssassin and ClamAV, so less junk reaches your inbox.
Before a message is even accepted, it also passes through iRedAPD, the policy server built into iRedMail. It enforces a set of rules at the front door:
- Throttling. Limits on how much mail an account can send in a given time, and on how many recipients a single message can have. If an account is ever compromised, it can’t be turned into a spam cannon.
- No impersonation. When you send mail, the address it comes from has to match the account you logged in with. Nobody can log in as one user and send mail as another.
- Server-wide blocks. When we spot a spam or phishing source, we can block it for every mailbox at once, by address, domain, or network.
Mail that gets delivered
Sending limits and automatic blocking of password-guessing attacks help keep spammers from abusing accounts. That protects our reputation with other providers, so your messages land in inboxes, not spam folders.
Two-factor authentication
Add a second layer of protection to your webmail login with an authenticator app. You can turn it on in your webmail preferences.

What about my rate?
XMission Email is $5 per month per mailbox. For many customers that’s what you pay today, and nothing changes. If your rate is changing, up or down, we’ll let you know by email. Any new rate starts with your first billing cycle after your upgrade.
After your upgrade
If you had an automatic reply (such as an out-of-office or vacation message) turned on in the old webmail, please check it and turn it back on in the new webmail if you still need it. You’ll find it under Preferences, Mail, Vacation. The webmail guide shows where everything lives.
