{"id":11,"date":"2008-07-14T15:46:41","date_gmt":"2008-07-14T22:46:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/xmission.com\/blog\/?p=11"},"modified":"2017-01-17T14:00:58","modified_gmt":"2017-01-17T21:00:58","slug":"getting-your-ps3-online","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xmission.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/14\/getting-your-ps3-online","title":{"rendered":"Getting Your PS3 Online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>Please note: As of January 1, 2017, XMission no longer sells DSL services.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So, you&#8217;d like to snipe a few fellow gamers in a game of Metal Gear Solid Online but there&#8217;s just one problem: your PS3 isn&#8217;t connected to the network.\u00a0 Fear not, for I shall walk you through the valley of the shadow of no internet connection and get you started on the path to a respectable kills\/deaths ratio.\u00a0 Simply follow these instructions and you&#8217;ll be learning first hand the meaning of &#8216;Game experience may change during online play&#8217; in no time.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a DSL router with a DHCP server that is on by default (Actiontec 1524\/GT701\/GT704\/M1000, 2Wire 2701HG), getting your PS3 online is a simple matter of plugging in an ethernet cable and firing up your PS3.<\/p>\n<p>Once you&#8217;re at the XMB (Xross Media Bar \u2013 Sony loves crazy acronyms!) navigate over to the settings icon, then down to &#8216;Network Settings&#8217;, which should be at the bottom of the list.\u00a0 Hit X and scroll down to &#8216;Internet Connection Settings&#8217;.\u00a0 Select &#8216;Easy&#8217; and press right on the D-pad.\u00a0 The PS3 will attempt to automatically discover the network settings.\u00a0 If successful, a Settings List will be displayed.\u00a0 Review this if you like, then press X.\u00a0 After you do this you will be prompted to test the settings.\u00a0 Hit X again to start the test.\u00a0 If &#8216;Obtain an IP Address&#8217; and &#8216;Internet Connection&#8217; both show &#8216;Succeeded&#8217; then you&#8217;re ready to start using your PS3 online!<\/p>\n<p>If you have a Cisco 675\/678 router you will need to manually configure the PS3 settings.\u00a0 From the Internet Connection Settings menu select Custom &gt; Wired Connection &gt; Manual Settings &gt; Auto-Detect &gt; Manual.\u00a0 At this screen you are presented with 5 settings.\u00a0 Enter the following addresses in the corresponding field:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>IP Address: 10.0.0.10 (or any unused number between .10 and .255)<\/li>\n<li>Subnet Mask: Leave at 255.255.255.0<\/li>\n<li>Default Router: 10.0.0.1<\/li>\n<li>Primary DNS: 198.60.22.2<\/li>\n<li>Secondary DNS: 198.60.22.22<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>After you&#8217;ve entered these settings keep pressing right until you get to the settings list.\u00a0 Review it to be sure there are no errors then press the X button to save your settings.<\/p>\n<p>Voil\u00e0, your PS3 is now ready to connect to the network.\u00a0 Once connected, be sure to stop by the PlayStation Store to check out new demos, free themes (the Metal Gear Solid 4 theme is especially nice) and more!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please note: As of January 1, 2017, XMission no longer sells DSL services.
